Free UTM Builder for GA4
Create clean campaign URLs, predict how GA4 may classify them, generate real downloadable QR codes and keep a reusable campaign library—without creating an account.
The direct answer
What does a UTM builder do?
A UTM builder adds campaign-tracking parameters to a destination URL so Google Analytics 4 can identify where a visit came from, how the link was distributed and which campaign or creative generated the click. The link still opens the same webpage; the added parameters give the visit useful campaign labels.
Build, inspect, batch and save
Your GA4 campaign-link workspace
Start with one link, examine an existing URL, create a group of channel-specific links or return to campaigns saved in this browser.
Quick platform presets
A preset fills a sensible starting source and medium. Every field remains editable.

Decode and check an existing campaign URL
Paste a complete link to separate the destination from its campaign values and identify missing or inconsistent fields.

What every UTM parameter means in GA4

Source and medium matter together
Why the same campaign can land in different GA4 channels
GA4 uses rule-based channel definitions. A social source paired with a paid-style medium can be treated differently from the same source paired with “social.”
utm_source=instagramutm_medium=paid_socialLikely channel: Paid Socialutm_source=instagramutm_medium=socialLikely channel: Organic Socialutm_source=postcardutm_medium=qrMay require a custom channel groupThe tool’s channel result is planning guidance based on published GA4 rules. Your connected advertising accounts, auto-tagging, custom channel groups and property configuration can affect final reporting.

Before the campaign launches
Test the complete tracking path
A correctly formatted URL is only the first check. The landing page, redirects, analytics tag and final reporting all need to cooperate.
- 1
Open the finished link
Confirm the correct public page loads without an error.
- 2
Watch the address bar
Make sure redirects do not remove the UTM parameters before the landing page loads.
- 3
Use a private browser window
This reduces interference from an existing session while you perform the launch test.
- 4
Check GA4 Realtime or DebugView
Confirm that the visit is reaching the intended GA4 property.
- 5
Review campaign dimensions
Look for the intended manual source, medium, campaign and content values.
- 6
Test printed QR codes
Scan the final printed proof on more than one phone before producing the full run.
Avoid damaged reporting
Common UTM mistakes
Most problems come from inconsistent labels, unsuitable mediums or a tracking path that was never tested.

Where to review campaign traffic in GA4
Use the reporting view that matches the question you are asking.
What drove this session?
Use session source/medium, session campaign and session default channel group to understand the current visit.
How was the user first acquired?
First-user dimensions describe the original acquisition source rather than every later session.
What did manually tagged links report?
Review manual campaign name, source, medium, term, content, campaign ID and source platform.
Frequently asked questions
UTM builder and GA4 questions
Will the generated link open the same webpage?
Yes. The destination remains the same. The builder adds campaign parameters to the URL so analytics can label the visit.
Does the QR code actually open the tagged website?
Yes. The QR code contains the complete generated campaign URL. Scanning it opens that URL, including its UTM parameters.
Does creating a UTM link automatically install GA4?
No. The destination website still needs a working GA4 implementation. A tagged link supplies campaign information; it does not install analytics.
Should Google Ads links use manual UTMs?
Google recommends connected ad-platform integrations and auto-tagging where available. Manual UTMs may still be required for another measurement system, but the setup should be reviewed before combining them.
Can a QR campaign appear as Unassigned?
Yes. A custom medium such as “qr” may not match a standard GA4 channel rule. The campaign can still retain its manual source and medium, and a custom channel group can organize it if needed.
Are campaign links stored by Marketing Mate?
No. The builder runs in the browser. Saved campaigns remain in that browser until they are deleted, the browser storage is cleared or the user restores a backup elsewhere.
Can I shorten the generated URL?
You can place the finished URL into a trusted link-shortening or redirect system, but test the final shortened link to ensure the complete query string survives.
Can UTMs contain spaces?
Browsers can encode spaces, but a consistent naming convention using underscores or hyphens usually produces cleaner and easier-to-read campaign values.
Information basis
Built around current GA4 campaign guidance
This guide was reviewed against Google Analytics documentation covering URL builders, manual campaign parameters, traffic-source dimensions, campaign imports, default channel groups and tagging practices. The interactive channel result is guidance—not access to a visitor’s private Analytics property.
